would you like to smoke?
On January 1, 2018, California became the latest state to
legalize the sale of recreational marijuana. Although the plant is legal in
29 states and the District of Columbia
for recreational and medicinal use, the federal government still classifies marijuana
as a “Controlled substance,” making it a federal crime to possess, buy, or sell
the substance. Many who are against the legalization of marijuana would argue
that legalizing it would cause an issue in public safety. They stress that it
would lead to more accidents on highways as well as more crime in our society. The
truth Is that none of their statistics have validation because there is no
proof to support those statements. On the other hand I think that a strong argument
can be made stating that in fact the legalization of marijuana by the federal government
would come with state and federal benefits. For example, it would start by lowering
the number of people who are in jail for harmless crimes. Also, once legalized,
marijuana can be taxed potentially producing billions of dollars annually in
profit. Not only that but legalizing and regulating marijuana could create jobs
and economic opportunities as it would bring the nation’s largest cash crop. On
a separate note, Marijuana cures and prevents Alzheimer’s and Glaucoma, it
helps relieve stress, anxiety, depression, and even helps relieve pain in
patients as well. This has been found to be true while marijuana is federally
illegal. Can you only imagine what could potentially be discovered would it be legal?
The federal government should legalize and regulate marijuana
as it would bring more benefit than it would harm. Some states have already
taken the initiative to make it legal and regulate it and still there has been
no sign of a negative outcomes. In addition marijuana can be used for far more
other purposes than simple enjoyment. ‘
Could you tell me the last time you heard of someone
wrecking a car because they were “high”? or maybe the last time someone charged
of domestic violence was due to their hallucinations?
