Technology VS Wall (blog stage 4)

On Thursday, January 11, 2018, CNN published an article about “The answer to border security is technology, not wall”. The author Henry Cuellar, discusses that building an actual wall would be ineffective to reduce the population of the people who are entering undocumented. While it may make it harder for immigrants to cross and for the black market to continue bringing drugs across the border, it wouldn’t stop it one hundred percent. Additionally, it would cost an absurd amount of money. To solve this problem, Cuellar suggests that instead of building a physical wall, the government should increase the use of the modern technology to better secure it. Using modernization such as cameras, fixed towers and underground sensors would be a more efficient, accurate, and inexpensive way to better secure the borders. In my opinion I totally agree with Henry innovating idea. First of all,  don’t believe that building a wall will stop undocumented immigrants from coming across the Mexico US border. Not suggesting that the use of modern technology would do so either but taking into consideration the expenses differences, it’s obvious what option is more beneficial to securing the border. Secondly, the relationship between US and Mexico would be greatly impacted in a way that may not bring great benefits. If the United States decide to make a wall, it is possible it can have a negative effect on the trade relationships the two countries have developed. A better solution to solve this problem should be to remedy with the Mexican government, attempting to strengthen the Mexican laws, enforcing the US Border Patrol coordinate interdiction efforts, Both performing joint patrols, as well as respond to border violence and pursue prosecution of criminals of transnational criminal organizations together. For these reasons, I believe that the United States should use the modern technology to certainly reduce the number of undocumented people entering the US but more importantly to maintain a good relationship with Mexico.
